Jane Clevenger, M. Ed., Reading
Jane Clevenger received her master’s degree in Reading from the University of Arizona and has 24 years of professional experience in education. She has worked as a Reading Specialist in California and Arizona, responsible for teacher training and curriculum development. She participated in the California Literacy Project and worked extensively with language acquisition for second language learners. Jane served as a model instructor and teacher coach in reading skills for multiple schools. As a consultant, she developed an emergent reader textbook series designed to serve as a bridge between traditional reading instruction and current research. Jane served as an Integrated Language Arts Program (ILAP) consultant to the Casa Grande School District and to the Navajo Nation in Kayenta, Arizona, focusing on reading instruction for Second Language learners. Jane designed and participated in a highly successful pilot project with BFGoodrich in Phoenix, Arizona, working with adult ESL learners employed as production workers to assess and remediate English reading skills for employment and production requirements. As a result of the project, learners achieved an average four grade levels of reading gain in 28 hours of instruction and greatly improved their ability to communicate verbally with coworkers and supervisors. Jane specializes in rapid assessment and remediation in reading and ESL and assessing documentation for readability. She serves as a researcher, ESL and documentation consultant for The Learning Consortium, Inc.
